Yes, we’re friends

Flicka is amused by what should have been our authors’ photo for RM:

As for Bruce: very hot in a mild-mannered-Clark-Kent kind of way. Much better.

However what’s good for you is very unfortunate for Vox. (Are you sure you two are friends?) He needs to fire his manager. Now. And make anyone who wants to dress him up and pose him prove his: a) sobriety and b) hetersexuality.

My god, the only thing he’s missing is a cape.

Unfortunately, Pocket wouldn’t let us use it due to the guns. (By which I mean the Glocks, not the biceps….) And yes, we are friends.

What’s kind of funny about Flicka’s reaction is the automatic assumption that everything even remotely masculine is some kind of homoposery. It’s gotten to the point that if somebody posted a video of himself ripping a human head off a living body with his bare hands and slam-dunking it on a twelve-foot rim, the main reaction would probably be: “wow, that is so gay!”

Fox News funding terrorism

It seems to me there must be a major violation of the Patriot Act here:

Palestinian terror groups and security organizations in the Gaza Strip received $2 million from a U.S. source in exchange for the release of Fox News employees Steve Centanni and Olaf Wiig, who were kidnapped here last summer, a senior leader of one of the groups suspected of the abductions told WND.

If the government can’t determine who paid for this obvious violation of U.S. law, I don’t know what more proof you’d need that the Patriot Acts are totally useless for “fighting terrorism”. Which would, naturally, lead one to wonder what are the actual uses for which it is intended.

Word

Even the post-communist Chinese grasp what so many Western women can’t:

“Rich men are normally very busy, and most of the women they meet are there for work or business, which these men consider to be unsuitable for relationships.”

If you want to stay home and take care of the kids, do you want to marry someone who wants to stay home and take care of the kids? Most people can understand that, so why would they ever think that a successful and ambitious man wants to marry a successful and ambitious woman?

Everyone can’t play quarterback if you want a functional team.

At least the libraries are safe

Devious plan to bring down airliner by explosive orgasm thwarted:

A couple’s ill-concealed sexual play aboard a Southwest Airlines flight from Los Angeles got them charged with violating the Patriot Act, intended for terrorist acts, and could land them in jail for 20 years.

Remember when “conservative” commentators openly made fun of the idea that the Patriot Act would ever be used for anything but catching evil terrorists trying to destroy America?

That was awesome.

In fairness, I don’t think anyone has managed to answer Jonah Goldberg’s challenge to name a single library that has been assaulted via the Patriot Act, so obviously his dismissal of Patriot Act concerns remains intact, if even more obviously irrelevant than before.

Crown her already

It seems at least one editor at National Review can’t wait to see a female president:

…what if a little down the line, John McCain asked Joe Lieberman to be his running mate?

You see, this is why I said it would take a defeat in 2008 to fully open Three Monkeys eyes. How anyone could imagine that moving the Republican Party further to the Left will do anything but ensure Bush-Clinton IV is beyond me.

If Muslims get it

Then why don’t the Anti-Defamation League and the ACLU?

Muslim leaders joined their Christian counterparts yesterday to launch a powerful attack on politicians and town halls that play down Christmas. They warned that attempts to remove religion from the festival were fuelling Right-wing extremism.

A number of town halls have tried to excise references to Christianity from Christmas, in one case by renaming their municipal celebrations “Winterval”. They have often justified their actions by saying Britain is now a multi-faith society and they are anxious to avoid offending minority groups.

But the Muslim leaders said they honoured Christmas and that local authorities were playing into the hands of extremists who were able to blame Muslim communities for undermining Britain’s Christian culture.

It kind of takes the wind out of your sails when the people you are “defending” inform you that your efforts are counterproductive and undesirable, doesn’t it. Unfortunately, it’s not as if that will stop them.

I think the ideal solution would be for every person who favors banning all mention of Christmas to be informed that they will not be getting any time off in December until New Years Eve. It’s not as if a particular collection of genes should logically care which random collections of genes happen to be in their vicinity at any particular point in the space-time continuum anyhow.

Now, I wish my Jewish friends both a Happy Hannukah and a Merry Christmas. They do the same with me. This is not rocket science! In the West, we celebrate Christmas. Accept it and deal with it, or go somewhere else.

In case you were wondering

Why I prefer English newspapers:

This is the problem. I am designed to kill foxes, bend every woman I meet over the nearest piece of furniture and give her a damn good seeing-to. But in an evolutionary nanosecond, it’s all changed. After several million years of programming we’ve been told that what women really want is a husband who leaves his colleagues in the lurch at 7pm and comes home to make a delicious quiche.

That’s like telling your faithful family toaster after a lifetime spent making toast that you want it to become a washing machine. And it’s not just a bunch of baggy-breasted feminists making the point either. It’s every single girl from the age of puberty to the menopause.

Last weekend my colleague James May hurt his wrist while performing a stunt at the MPH show in London. Being male, mostly, he shrugged it off and kept going, which caused all the backstage women to treat him like a leper. If he’d wanted to impress them he should have abandoned the show, gone home, sold his heartwarming story to OK! magazine, and spent the next six weeks watching Love Actually with his cat.

I’m trying to imagine this being published in the Washington Times, let alone the New York Times. And you know, I just can’t. Even the writers with whom I disagree vociferously at least don’t write that stultifyingly milksop politically-correct prose that so many products of American J-schools produce by the quart.

But underneath the slashing sarcasm is much the same point that the Pan-Gargler often makes, which is that it is ridiculous and counterproductive for men to look to women to tell them what it is that makes a man.
