It’s… it’s alive!

ESR is observant, as always, in his reflections on the Alt-Right, but he’s a little behind on the evolution of the conservative and libertarian right into the Alt-Right:

I’m worried, however, that that the alt-right may not remain a loose-knit collection of hoaxes – that the self-panickers are actually creating what they fear.

For there is a deep vein of anti-establishment anger out there (see Donald Trump, election of). The alt-right (to the limited and conditional extent it now exists) could capture that anger, and its provocateurs are doing their best to make you think it already has, but they’re scamming you – they’re fucking with your head. The entire on-line ‘alt-right’ probably musters fewer people than the Trumpster’s last victory rally.

It’s a kind of dark-side Discordian hack in progress, and I’m concerned that it might succeed. Vox Day is trying to ideologize the alt-right, actually assemble something coherent from the hoaxes. He might succeed, or someone else might. Draw some comfort that it won’t be the Neo-Nazis or KKK – they’re real fanatics of the sort the alt-right defines itself by mocking. Mein Kampf and ironic nihilism don’t mix well.

The best way to beat the “alt-right” is not to overestimate it, not to feed it with your fear. If you keep doing that, the vast majority of the rootless and disaffected who have never heard of it might decide there’s a strong horse there and sign on.

What ESR is missing, as most of those who consider themselves opposed to the imaginary while simultaneously attempting to understand the nonexistent do, is that attempting to discern the material existence of an abstraction is a fundamental category error.

The Alt-Right is a description of a collection of ideas. People can concur with some, all, or none of those ideas, but the ideas exist on whatever abstract plane that ideas exist regardless of whether anyone believes they are correct or not.

The “dark-side Discordian hack” has already succeeded, indeed, it could hardly fail. The failure of conservatism and the undeniable utopianism at the heart of libertarianism, combined with the obvious collapse of neo-liberalism, meant that an alternative to all three was absolutely inevitable. And the best way to understand the Alt-Right is to view it as the Keynesianism of the Right.

Keynes believed that his economics-based justification for central government control was necessary to prevent the collapse of the early 20th century liberal democracies into communism in the face of economic disaster. I contend that my nationalism-based justification for culturally homogeneous, religiously harmonious ethno-states is necessary to prevent the collapse of early 21st century illiberal multicultural societies into balkanized, totalitarian ethno-states actively engaged in large-scale violence.

The Alt-Right is the strongest horse that the West has got, because it is the only political philosophy that is in harmony with science, history, and reality as we currently observe it. It is the only Western political philosophy that is not intrinsically based in self-delusion. Everyone, especially liberals, would do well to sign on and ride it, or there won’t be a West and there won’t be any of the various aspects of society that Western liberals like ESR value.

It’s been my opinion that the alt-right basically started gaining traction as a thing as the progressive Social Justice Warriors began seeking to expand their influence into new areas, such as science fiction (see: the circumstances leading up to Sad/Rabid Puppies), video games (see: Gamergate), open-source software development (see: this post by Our Host), and even heavy-metal music (see: this description of “Metalgate”). Clearly, they’d like to see their brand of political correctness spread everywhere.

“Always leave your opponent a line of retreat–unless you want a fight to the death.” The SJWs don’t want to leave any lines of retreat. Consequently, it seems inevitable that a group of people, drawing from some of the same groups reacting to the above developments, would decide to band together and proclaim, “If it’s war they want, then war they shall have!”

I’m not an opportunist. I’m not a revolutionary. I just wanted to write my books and design my games and live my life in peace. But SJWs, multiculturalists, diversicrats, and vibrants have collectively rendered that impossible, so now we’ve got to reset and rebuild Western civilization if we ever want to go back what we were doing in the first place.

All the news that’s fit to fake

I was interviewed for this piece on the Alt-Right that appeared in the New York Times, but none of the answers I provided to the reporter, who is referenced in the byline, were quoted in the article. Read it and you’ll probably be able to figure out why his questions and my answers were omitted easily enough.

As usual, I’m only posting my answers here, as I did not request permission to quote the reporter’s questions.

  • The Alt-Right is the rational response to the failure of American conservatism to conserve anything and the inability of libertarianism to promote liberty, as well as the descent of American liberalism into multiculturalism, social justice, and diversity. What I like about the Alt-Right is that it offers Western civilization a chance of survival that it will otherwise lack.
  • The Alt-Right is important because it is the only current political philosophy that is in harmony with science, history, and reality as we currently observe it.
  • It is neither intrinsically racist nor intrinsically white. It’s certainly not white supremacist; the desire of the white Alt-Right to preserve their European nations is no more “supremacist” than the desire of Israelis to preserve their Jewish nation or the desire of the Japanese to preserve their Japanese nation. Regardless of what you think of nationalism, nationalism is neither racism nor white supremacy. The fact that there are Alt-Right supporters who speak 18 different languages, from Afrikaans to Hebrew, should suffice to demonstrate the absurdity of the Alt-Right being nothing more than racist white supremacists.
  • There are observably two different branches of the Alt-Right, plus a pool of Alt-Right-leaning conservatives. I describe these as the Alt-White, the Alt-West, and the Alt-Light. They all share the same goal of preserving Western Civilization and the European nations, but whereas the Alt-West tends to place more emphasis on Christianity and the Graeco-Roman legacy, the Alt-White tends to focus more on the European nations. The Alt-Light are those who are still in the process of making the transition from conservatism, libertarianism, and even liberalism to open support of the Alt-Right, as defined by the 16 Points. 
  • I am of the Alt-West branch. I am neither a leader nor a figurehead of the Alt-Right, I’m merely an armchair commentator who happens to have made the philosophical transition from libertarianism to the Alt-Right.
  • Since I am an American Indian, this is obviously a false narrative. Nor do we merely present ourselves as more intellectual; one of the reasons our critics are so desperate to keep us out of the public discourse is because our ideas are more firmly grounded in science, logic, and history than theirs, and our intellectuals are observably more intelligent than theirs. To attempt to boil down the entire Alt-Right philosophy to nothing more than rebranded racism is ludicrously stupid. This should be obvious, since rebranded racism cannot explain why so many conservatives are gravitating towards the Alt-Right.
  • The Ku Klux Klan is an irrelevant and outdated American organization based on race. The Alt-Right is an increasingly popular, increasingly relevant global phenomenon based on nationalism.
  • Because the Alt-Right were among Donald Trump’s earliest and most enthusiastic supporters. Donald Trump was the only candidate, in either major party, whose policies were even relevant to the serious challenges now facing America and other Western nations. The fact that many Alt-Right individuals not only expected Donald Trump to win, but publicly predicted it very early on, is one of many indicators that the Alt-Right political philosophy is the only intellectually viable one in American politics today.
It is informative that even the New York Times feels it is necessary to resort to quoting non-entities, extremists, and people who explicitly disavow the Alt-Right label rather than those who openly embrace it in order to make what passes for their case. They do so because they have no effective response to us. They have no ability, no capacity, to even begin to engage in discourse with the greater part of the Alt-Right, because their perspective has been rendered outdated and irrelevant by events.

The New York Times: All the news that’s fit to fake!

Even the subtitle contains an outright lie: “A movement of many factions is trying to change its image now that its profile has risen, but its message — one of racial separation and supremacy — is unchanged.”

Racial separation is not supremacy. Are we Indians Red Supremacists because we insist on keeping our reservations? The constant conflation of separaration with supremacy by the Fake News is completely and shamelessly deceitful. That’s why they can’t quote me. To do so will explode their false narrative and demonstrate its intrinsic dishonesty.

Dutch court convicts Geert Wilders

“You will not succeed in silencing me and defeating the PVV. Support for the party of freedom is stronger than ever and is growing every day. The Dutch want their country back!”

I suspect those eurofascists are going to be sincerely regretting their reprehensible and anti-democartic once the Dutch people put the PVV in power and Wilders becomes the Prime Minister. Never forget, if they can ban our speech, we can ban their speech. And if they do ban our speech, it is incumbent upon us to return the favor, with interest.

Feminism is hate speech.
Multiculturalism is hate speech.
Diversity is hate speech.
Equality is hate speech.

The Wilders conviction was quite literally a show trial. Every newspaper and government agency in the USA could be convicted of “insulting a group and inciting discrimination”.

Dutch anti-Islam political leader Geert Wilders has been convicted of insulting a group and inciting discrimination. But no penalty was imposed by the court near Amsterdam on Wilders, whose party is leading in polls ahead of parliamentary elections in March. Wilders was also acquitted of inciting hate over telling supporters in March 2014 he would ensure there were fewer Moroccans in the Netherlands.

Making Europe Great Again: Italy edition

Today Prime Minister Renzi’s attempt to centralize the Italian government in order to render it more subservient to the EU occupiers is going to fail. This will be the second domino to fall after BREXIT, the third may be the ascension of the nationalist Austrian Freedom Party to the ceremonial role as President:

Donald Trump’s victory—which shocked Europe’s political and media elite—gives the populists backing the “No” side of Italy’s referendum the political rocket fuel they need for a virtually guaranteed win.

That momentum will be all but impossible to reverse. Anti-elite sentiment is rising on both sides of the Atlantic. And I bet the global populist revolution will continue.

If Italians buck the establishment—and it looks like they will—it will clear a path for a populist party to take power and for Italy to exit the euro.

If that happens, the fallout will be catastrophic for global markets. The Financial Times recently put it this way:

An Italian exit from the single currency would trigger the total collapse of the eurozone within a very short period.

It would probably lead to the most violent economic shock in history, dwarfing the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy in 2008 and the 1929 Wall Street crash.

If the FT is even partially right, we’re looking at a possible stock market crash of historic proportions. This is why we’re watching the December 4 referendum so closely.

The referendum is meant to concentrate more power in Italy’s central government. On that point alone, everyone should oppose it. The centralization of power never leads to good things.

A “Yes” vote is effectively a vote of confidence in the current pro-EU Italian establishment. This is what the global elite wants.

A “No” vote is how the average Italian can give the finger to the faceless EU bureaucrats in Brussels, whom many blame—quite correctly—for their problems.

Trump’s win has been a double whammy for Italy’s pro-EU establishment.

First, it emboldens the populist forces fighting the referendum.

Second, it humiliates and politically castrates Matteo Renzi, the current Italian prime minister. Renzi took a rare step when he openly endorsed Hillary Clinton. He was the only European leader to do so.

As one of Renzi’s rivals said after Trump’s victory, “Matteo Renzi is politically finished from today, he’s a dead man walking.”

Other Italian politicians are furious that he weakened Italy’s standing with the new Trump administration….

Austria

Austria is holding a presidential election, also on December 4. It’s actually a redo of an election held in May, where a populist candidate, Norbert Hofer of the Freedom Party, barely lost.

Austrian courts found irregularities in the results and ordered a prompt new election. But when opinion polls showed the populist candidate in the lead, the government delayed the vote until December 4, giving a lame excuse about faulty adhesive on absentee ballots. Despite the foot-dragging, Mr. Hofer looks set to win the December 4 vote.

France

France has a presidential election next spring. There’s a chance that Marine Le Pen, leader of the Eurosceptic National Front party, will do better than many expect. After more than a decade of disappointment under presidents François Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy, French voters are clamoring for something different.

Spain

Spain recently re-elected incumbent Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. However, Spanish voters fled traditional political parties en masse for new populist upstarts Podemos and Ciudadanos. So Rajoy was unable to form a majority government. Rajoy now leads a severely weak minority government. The political power of the Spanish populist parties is only expected to grow.

Germany

Angela Merkel, the chancellor of Germany, embodies the European establishment more than any other politician. Her party suffered a series of stinging defeats in regional elections this year, mostly because of her signature lax immigration policies, which have flooded Germany with migrants. Merkel’s troubles have only helped the Alternative for Germany, a new populist party surging in popularity. The party could pose a real problem for Merkel in the 2017 federal elections.


The Netherlands

As the Netherlands approaches elections in March, Geert Wilders’s Party for Freedom, which advocates leaving the EU, is basically tied in opinion polls with the establishment parties.

Meanwhile, the children of EU elites are literally being raped and murdered by the very “refugees” they welcomed inside their nations. Their trans-European globalism isn’t merely untenable these days, it is very nearly as intellectually finished as Communism.

They’ve learned absolutely nothing

The Guardian is under the impression that if they keep doubling down on their Narrative on GamerGate, and now the Alt-Right, eventually people will start believing their rubbish. But that’s not how it works anymore:

The stark parallels between Gamergate and the political atmosphere of 2016 may come as a surprise, but it shouldn’t: both saw their impact and reach amplified by self-interested parties who underplayed the obvious nastiness they were also promoting. With 2014’s Gamergate, Breitbart seized the opportunity to harness the pre-existing ignorance and anger among disaffected young white dudes. With Trump’s movement in 2016, the outlet was effectively running his campaign: Steve Bannon took leave of his role at the company in August 2016 when he was hired as chief executive of Trump’s presidential campaign. Despite Bannon’s distance from Breitbart in an official capacity, the outlet’s ideology and relentless support of Trump remained unchanged – with editor-in-chief Joel Pollak notably sending an internal memo to staff that ordered them not to support Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields after allegations she was attacked by Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

Breitbart’s aspirations to directly influence politics extend a long way into Europe, too – Bannon is openly keen to collaborate with the far-right Marine Le Pen in France, and hired UKIP’s Raheem Hassam to co-run the Breitbart London office. These movements are gaining ground by finding political figures who will legitimise them in return for the support of their swollen online communities. The young men converted via 2014’s Gamergate, are being more widely courted now. By leveraging distrust and resentment towards women, minorities and progressives, many of Gamergate’s most prominent voices – characters like Mike Cernovich, Adam Baldwin, and Milo Yiannopoulos – drew power and influence from its chaos. These figures gave Gamergate a new sense of direction – generalising the rhetoric: this was now a wider war between “Social Justice Warriors” (SJWs) and everyday, normal, decent people. Games were simply the tip of the iceberg – progressive values, went the argument, were destroying everything. The same voices moved into other geek communities, especially comics, where Marvel and DC were criticised for progressive storylines and decisions. They moved into science fiction with the controversy over the Hugo awards. They moved into cinema with the revolting kickback against the all-female Ghostbusters reboot. Despite colonising the world with pointless tech and plastering modern film and TV with fan-pleasing adaptations of niche comic books, nerds still had a taste for revenge. They saw the culture they considered theirs being ripped away from them. In their zero sum mindset, they read growing artistic equality as a threat.

The last two sentences demonstrate what I mean by the Alt-Right being the only ideological perspective that is rooted in reality. The West is our culture and it is being ripped away from us. Equality is not a threat because it is nonexistent; diversity is an existential threat. And demographics is, quite literally, a zero-sum game.

Meanwhile, all of #GamerGate is looking puzzled and wondering “when was Mike Cernovich ever one of our most prominent voices?” About the same time we were leveraging distrust and resentment towards women and minorities, one presumes. They know nothing and they’ve learned nothing. That’s why we will continue to defeat them.

We have no idea where this will lead, but our continued insistence on shrugging off the problems of the internet as “not real” – as something we can just log out of – is increasingly misled.

Well, perhaps they’ve learned that. Not that it’s going to do them any good, as long as they insist on believing their own revisionist histories.

AP: Avoid using ‘alt-right’ without context

The Associated Press Monday released new guidelines for referencing the “alt-right,” which ask that journalists use the term alongside its definition and in context of its association with racist beliefs.

The new guidelines read: “‘Alt-right’ (quotation marks, hyphen and lower case) may be used in quotes or modified as in the ‘self-described’ or ‘so-called alt-right’ in stories discussing what the movement says about itself. Avoid using the term generically and without definition, however, because it is not well known and the term may exist primarily as a public-relations device to make its supporters’ actual beliefs less clear and more acceptable to a broader audience.”

It should be amusing to see them try to define it in the next set of guidelines. What this indicates, however, is that they’ve failed to stamp the Alt-Right as either Nazis or White Supremacists, which was their initial attempt to address it. They want to avoid so much as mentioning the term without providing the necessary context, which means framing it to fit their Narrative.

2. Dreapta Alt este o ALTERNATIVĂ la mișcarea conservatoare dominantă din Statele Unite ale Americii care, deși incapsulată ilustrativ în cele 10 Principii ale Gândirii Conservatoare ale lui Russel Kirk, în realitate a involuat spre progresivism. De asemenea, este o alternativa la libertarianism.

3. Dreapta Alt nu reprezintă o atitudine defensivă si respinge conceptul înfrângerii nobile și principiale. Este o filosofie de viitor, ofensiva, în toate sensurile termenului. Dreapta Alt crede în atingerea scopurilor prin perseverență și rămânerea în armonie cu știința, realitatea, tradiția culturală, și lecțiile istoriei.

4. Dreapta Alt crede că civilizația vestică reprezintă apogeul realizărilor umanității și sprijină cei trei piloni ai acesteia: creștinismul, națiunile europene, și moștenirea greco-romană.

5. Dreapta Alt își afișează în mod deschis și clar principiile naționaliste. Sprijină toate mișcările naționaliste și dreptul tuturor națiunilor de a exista, de a rămâne omogene și neafectate de invazii străine sau mișcari imigraționiste.

6. Dreapta Alt este antiglobalistă. Se opune tuturor grupurilor care au o agendă care conține idealuri sau obiective globaliste.

9. Dreapta Alt conclude că identitatea > cultura > politica. Actul politic este precedat de cultura unei comunității care la rândul ei este determinată de identitatea celor care compun acea comunitate.

10. Dreapta Alt se opune guvernării sau dominării unui grup etnic de către altul, în special în cazurile când acestea au loc pe pământurile de baștină ale popoarelor dominate. Dreapta Alt se opune obținerii de influență excesivă în societate de către grupurile etnice neindigene prin nepotism, tribalism, sau oricare altă metodă.
