Perhaps he didn’t see the sign

I wonder how many more “gun-free zone” failures are necessary before people begin to conclude that perhaps mass disarmament is not the ideal way to avoid large numbers of victims:

Up to 15 dead–
Several more injured…
WCNC reported:

A shooter who opened fire at at Umpqua Community College Thursday in southern Oregon injured as many as 20 people before he was downed, a Douglas County official said.

KATU-TV reports that Oregon State Police say there were multiple fatalities, but that could not be immediately confirmed.

County commissioner Chris Boice told KGW-TV that 15 to 20 people were injured in the melee, including one woman shot in the chest.

Shooter is down…

People worry that lots of people carrying openly will lead to a “Wild West” situation, forgetting that four times more people were shot today in this Oregon “gun-free” zone than in the highest annual body count Tombstone ever saw, which was five.

“In cattle towns such as Tombstone or Dodge City, the average number of homicides was only 1.5 or 2 a year, according to path-breaking research by Robert R. Dykstra of SUNY-Albany.”

UPDATE: Mike Cernovich smells a rat:

Something is up. Shooter is Muslim or transgender. Otherwise we’d have a name and race by now.

“The shooter then asked people to stand up and state their religion and then started firing.”

Sounds Muslim, as it was a feature of previous attacks in Kenya and other places, but could be atheist. The fact that the police and media are sitting on the shooter’s identity tends to indicate the former; they haven’t previously shown any tendency to resist identifying atheists.

ESR on gun control

Eric S. Raymond reviews and recommends Gun Control in the Third Reich:

It is commonly argued today that civilian firearms can do nothing to prevent tyranny because the armed citizen is helpless against the military and law-enforcement machinery of the modern state. But the Nazis never believed this; Adolf Hitler said in 1942 “The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered […] peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so.

Halbrook shows how the Nazis treated the Germans themselves as “conquered people”; they took the prospect of armed resistance very seriously and acted with brutal efficiency to thwart it it by disarming any civilian they identified as a political enemy or potential rebel. In this they were successful; while armed anti-Nazi resistance movements sprung up all over the rest of Europe, there were none in Germany where weapon controls had been tightest.

The Nazis built their edifice of repression on a law of the preceding Weimar Republic requiring universal weapons registration. The law’s architects realized that these records could be dangerous in the hands of “extremist groups” and required them to be securely stored at police stations. This proved extremely convenient for the Nazis, who used the registration records as a targeting list.

The lesson for today is clear: the individual right to bear arms has to be defended with zeal even when a nation’s political circumstances look relatively benign. By the time the will to repression takes visible form, opposing gun control has already been deferred too long.

And it is only argued by those who know nothing of 4GW. There are sufficient guns even in most “gun-controlled” European countries to wipe out the soldiery and the police forces overnight.

Although it must be noted that the very concept of “gun control” is bordering on being completely outdated, thanks to 3D printing technology. Perhaps that is why the globalist elite is not only increasingly anti-democratic, but anti-technology as well.

Less guns, more crime

So much for the notion of the USA being unusually violent due to its guns and legal carry laws:

With a murder rate many times higher than the US, Russian legislators approved the carry of guns for self-defense. The new law was announced on November 18.

The International Business Times reports that prior to this change “Russians were only allowed to own firearms for hunting or target practice.” Because of this, there are only “13 million” privately owned firearms in Russia compared to approximately 310 million the US. On the other hand, “there were 21,603 murders in Russia” in 2009 compared with just over 13,600 in the US, “which has a population almost twice as large [as Russia].”

In other words, in the past few years fewer guns equaled more murder in Russia while more guns equaled fewer murders in the US.

Under the new law, Russians can acquire a license to carry a firearm for self-defense. The license has to be “renewed every five years” and applicants must “undergo background checks and take a safety course.”

The law allows licensed Russians to carry a variety of different guns.

No wonder the gun control lobby is trying to rebrand as “gun safety”. Their arguments are failing on an international level.

Gun control by any other name

Would still stink of totalitarianism. Don’t fall for the rebranding of gun control as “gun safety”:

The gun control movement, blocked in Congress and facing mounting losses in federal elections, is tweaking its name, refining its goals and using the same-sex marriage movement as a model to take the fight to voters on the state level.

After a victory in November on a Washington State ballot measure that will require broader background checks on gun buyers, groups that promote gun regulations have turned away from Washington and the political races that have been largely futile. Instead, they are turning their attention — and their growing wallets — to other states that allow ballot measures.

An initiative seeking stricter background checks for certain purchasers has already qualified for the 2016 ballot in Nevada, where such a law was passed last year by the Legislature then vetoed by the governor. Advocates of gun safety — the term many now use instead of “gun control” — are seeking lines on ballots in Arizona, Maine and Oregon as well.

It’s always pure deceitful rhetoric with the fucking rabbits. Always. The fact that they’ve been roundly defeated for two decades just means that they’ll rebrand, lie, and try again.

And observe that giving their inch only encourages them to immediately go after the mile.

In Washington, those who pushed the ballot measure through say they will begin a campaign to get the State Legislature to pass measures to keep guns from those with mental illnesses, children and people with a record of domestic violence.

Never give them an inch. Never compromise. Never moderate. And always punch back twice as hard.

It took them a while

But reality is beginning to penetrate even the thickest left-liberal skulls:

Ben Affleck joined Maher in talking about owning guns in order to protect their homes and their families.  Maher began the segment by talking about how the US is not protecting the environment, is failing to take Ebola seriously, and how “the Secret Service can’t even stop people from running across the lawn” at the White House. Affleck interjected: “They can’t just shoot someone on the lawn, that’s illegal… [But] they should have at least released the dogs.”

Maher then used Affleck’s comments as a springboard to launch into a short discussion on self-defense and the rights a private citizen has to defend himself and his property. He said: “In California, anyway, you can shoot an intruder in your home.”

Maher then looked at Affleck and said, “I mean, you have guns.” To which Affleck responded, “I do.” The audience grew quiet for a second and then roused up when Maher said, “So do I, and for that exact reason.” Maher added: “I’m not disarming unilaterally.”

Notice how discovering that they live in a world where danger has not, in fact, been legislated out of existence causes left-liberals like Ben Affleck, Bill Maher, and John Scalzi to rapidly about-face and purchase weaponry in order to defend themselves, their families, and their property. In like manner, they will abandon their vociferous feminism, racialism, immigrationism, and multiculturalism once they finally become attuned to the very real and present threats posed to themselves, their families, and their property.

Reality always demolishes false ideologies in the end. The core left-right question is whether one is capable of recognizing reality before the Grim Reaper is actually at one’s door.

Show some sense, people

Perhaps the only thing dumber than letting a nine year-old girl fire a gun on full auto is the idea that a ludicrously ill-considered training accident will lead Americans to embrace gun control:

A nine-year-old girl has accidentally shot dead a shooting instructor who was teaching her how to use a powerful Uzi submachine gun. Charles Vacca was showing the unnamed youngster how to fire the weapon at the Last Stop outdoor shooting range in the Mohave Desert in White Hills, Arizona, when the gun recoiled as she pulled the trigger.

In a statement, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said the 39-year-old was hit in the head by a stray bullet as the Israeli-made Uzi kicked back. He was airlifted to the University Medical Centre in Las Vegas, where he was later pronounced dead.

A video released by the police showed the slender girl with a ponytail and wearing pink shorts being instructed in how to aim the gun by Vacca.

I’m just glad that it was the idiot instructor who was killed and not the girl, as was the case in a similar incident a few years ago. I’m not a professional firearms instructor and I understand that guns kick. No one with zero to moderate firearms experience should fire a weapon on full auto, and certainly no child who isn’t going to be physically able to control the tendency of the weapon to rise.

Weapons deserve respect and demand common sense. And handing a loaded, fully automatic Uzi to a little girl demonstrates the precise opposite of both. It’s a remarkably stupid and unnecessary tragedy.

Gun rights in the capital

It’s another step forward for Gun Freedom in America:

A federal judge on Saturday overturned the Washington, D.C., ban on carrying handguns outside the home, saying it was unconstitutional.

“There is no longer any basis on which this court can conclude that the District of Columbia’s total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home is constitutional under any level of scrutiny,” said Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. of the District of Columbia District Court.

“Therefore, the court finds that the District of Columbia’s complete ban on the carrying of handguns in public is unconstitutional,” he added in his 19-page ruling on the case, Palmer v. District of Columbia, which has been dragging on for five years.

The court ordered the city to allow residents to carry handguns outside their homes and to let nonresidents carry them as well.

I’d prefer to see the Constitutional language implemented more completely and for all gun-related laws to be thrown out, but it’s good to see gun rights advancing, however slowly. Always make it harder for the government to kill its people. The harder it is for the government to do it, the higher the risk to its agents to try it, the less likely it is to happen.

Celebrate Palmer this week and buy a handgun.

The Lizard Queen DQs herself

And CNN knows it:

On May 7th CNN’s John King played a video of Hillary Clinton saying, “We have to rein in what has become [an] almost article of faith, that anybody can have a gun anywhere, [at] any time.” King quickly added, “She’s talking in the context of mental health,” but then he expressed obvious concern that this soundbite is going to make a great anti-Hillary commercial in southern Ohio, Florida, Colorado, and North Carolina, among other places.

Notice how the mainstream media will SHAMELESSLY lie on behalf of its favored candidates. Clinton wasn’t just “talking in the context of mental health”, she was talking about the expansion of concealed carry laws. While she did begin her answer in response to a question about suicide, her answer was a more broadly expansive one. But you can bet that we’re going to here the false “context” excuse when she gets nailed with her own words on the campaign trail.

Never, ever, trust a single word out of a leftist’s mouth at face value. I cannot stress this enough. They don’t believe in objective truth and they certainly feel no obligation to tell it.

Ninth Circuit: 2nd Amendment secures right to carry

In other words, “bearing arms” doesn’t just mean “owning” them.

The court concludes that California’s broad limits on both open and concealed carry of loaded guns — with no “shall-issue” licensing regime that assures law-abiding adults of a right to get licenses, but only a “good cause” regime under which no license need be given — “impermissibly infringe on the Second Amendment right to bear arms in lawful self-defense.” The Ninth Circuit thus joins the Seventh Circuit, and disagrees with the Second, Third, and Fourth Circuits.

This is good news. Sooner or later, the Supreme Court will be forced to face the issue directly.

Ready for Round Two

It’s always good to know who regards you as the enemy:

Documents from an Ohio National Guard (ONG) training drill conducted last January reveal the details of a mock disaster where Second Amendment supporters with “anti-government” opinions were portrayed as domestic terrorists. The ONG 52nd Civil Support Team training scenario involved a plot from local school district employees to use biological weapons in order to advance their beliefs about “protecting Gun Rights and Second Amendment rights.”

Portsmouth Fire Chief Bill Raison told NBC 3 WSAZ-TV in Huntington, West Virginia that the drill accurately represented “the reality of the world we live in,” adding that such training “helps us all be prepared.” Internal ONG documents provided to Media Trackers after repeated delays provide further context to what WSAZ-TV reported last winter.

In the disaster-preparedness scenario, two Portsmouth Junior High School employees poisoned school lunches with mustard gas, acting on orders from white-nationalist leader William Pierce. The ONG team discovered biological weapons being produced in the school,
requiring activation of containment and decontamination procedures.

That’s a nice little Baphomet the 52nd Civil Support Team features on its unit logo. Things do appear to be getting uglier and uglier. It was recently reported that less than 15 percent of Connecticut citizens who own semi-automatic rifles registered them with the state authorities. No one in his right mind thinks it is wise to be disarmed at this late stage of American history, not when the barbarians have been permitted inside the gates and the next big war appears more likely to take place at home than abroad.
