The myth of female achievement

It’s a little embarrassing when one’s knowledge doesn’t even rise to the level of Wikipedia. While I knew she had a male “co-pilot”, (and assumed that he’d done the takeoff and landing), I had no idea that Amelia Earheart didn’t actually do any flying in her trip across the Atlantic in her landmark “flight”.

After Lindbergh’s amazing feat he was an instant hero.  What he attempted was so astounding that before he even landed there were huge crowds gathered at the intended landing field outside Paris, waiting to see if this unknown airmail pilot from America could pull it off:

    The airfield was not marked on his map and Lindbergh knew only that it was some seven miles northeast of the city. He initially mistook the airfield for some large industrial complex with bright lights spreading out in all directions. The lights were, in fact, the headlights of tens of thousands of cars all driven by eager spectators now caught in “the largest traffic jam in Parisian history.”[55]

    A crowd estimated at 150,000 spectators stormed the field, dragged Lindbergh out of the cockpit, and literally carried him around above their heads for “nearly half an hour”.

This was just the crowd that gathered to see if he could pull it off.  Lindbergh had no radio on board so all the crowd knew was that he had taken off 33 hours prior and was intending to land at that airfield.  After he landed he was an instant worldwide sensation.

    The adulation and celebration of Lindbergh that emerged after the solo Atlantic flight were unprecedented. People were “behaving as though Lindbergh had walked on water, not flown over it.”[64]:17…

    Within a year of his flight, a quarter of Americans (an estimated 30 million) personally saw Lindbergh and the Spirit of St. Louis.[76]

For feminists the idea of a man receiving this much praise and attention was unbearable.  All of the attention given to “Lucky Lindy” created a frantic search for a woman who could be named “Lady Lindy”. This was not a race to see which woman would be the first to prove her mettle, it was a race to change the subject and mark aviation as a feminine space.  This is why all that mattered was that a woman ride in an airplane across the Atlantic, so long as she looked the part.

It is rather remarkable how long women’s “achievements” have been little more than the equivalent of little sister attempting to keep up with big brother. I mean, one would think that at least occasionally a woman would come up with the idea of trying to do something that no one has done before, but apparently imitating men – or even pretending to imitate men – is more important to these Hultgreen-Curie candidates than actually doing anything new.

I’m no Freudian and I think most of his theories are obvious nonsense, but the Hultgreen-Curie types do lend a modicum of credibility to his penis envy hypothesis.

SJWs attack Warhammer

Social Justice Warriors declare war on Chaos:

Maturity is the ability to respond to the environment in an appropriate manner. This response is generally learned rather than instinctive. The outdated ideas about sex and sexuality – and they are outdated – that Slaanesh represents are simply not appropriate for the game any more. They’re not appropriate for younger gamers; they’re insulting to women, to trans and intersex people, as well as to any man whose sexuality extends beyond five quick pumps whilst thinking of England. The mature response would be to acknowledge this, and avoid the instinct to avoid change. Change terrifies people, especially members of the geek community, who loathe retcons with a passion that could eclipse suns.

But, in my opinion, Slaanesh shouldn’t be part of things as they are. So how could we deal with this?

Well, contrary to what you might think, I don’t actually believe we should Squat it. For better or worse, Slaanesh is a longstanding part of things, and it’s would be simply unfair to those gamers who’ve got Slaanesh armies. As well as this, 40K isn’t just a wargame any more; Fantasy Flight Games’ excellent lines of tabletop RPGs enable the discussion of some very mature themes, especially in more investigation-based games like ‘Dark Heresy’. A Slaanesh cult could be an intriguing way for an appropriately mature group of gamers to look at all kinds of ideas to do with the aforementioned sex, sexuality and other adult issues.

So what to do? Well, in my opinion, the best solution would be to ‘retire’ Slaanesh as a GW-produced faction and make the army Forge World’s property. If you’ve not read any of FW’s books, I can attest that they have demonstrated time and again that they can do nuance. Not to mention, FW’s models are NOT targeted at children, but explicitly as adult collectors, meaning it’s possible to completely ignore that issue of inappropriateness. GW as a company can completely take advantage of this, having its cake and eating it, and they should. Obviously, this does nothing to overcome the inherent problems of sexist models, or the deeply embedded homophobic and transphobic imagery, but that’s something which can be looked at over time in Black Library books, Forge World supplements, and FFG RPG supplements.

Slaanesh has already been replaced by the Horned Rat in AoS, which clearly shows it can be done in 40K too. To be honest, this is the ideal opportunity to do something exciting and new for Chaos players, giving them a whole new Chaos power to deal with. They could bring back Malal, or they could choose something else to fill the gap more naturally. Either way, it would be a step towards turning 40K into an actual, truly mature environment, and that can only be a good thing.

But it isn’t going over as well as earlier incursions in other areas, since the at least part of the Warhammer community is apparently aware of the driving force behind these demands for change.

  • You want to rewrite 40k (or something else) to evolve it into something more than caricatured meatheads in power armor and one-dimensional demons, that’s great, more power to you. You want to rewrite it because someone somewhere might use it as an excuse to glorify their imagined victimhood, hell no, f*** you. We have, as a society, been walking on eggshells for years, cringing in fear every time the Manufactured Grievance Industry opens its maw, and shamed into reflexive self-censorship. That’s not a path to maturity, that’s perpetual infantilization.

Submission or resistance are the two available options.

    Feeling the pressure

    I won’t go so far as to say Trump choked, as at least he didn’t apologize or retract his comments about the Mexican judge, but he does appear to be feeling the pressure more than he did previously:

    “It is unfortunate that my comments have been misconstrued as a categorical attack against people of Mexican heritage. I am friends with and employ thousands of people of Mexican and Hispanic descent,” Trump said. “I do not feel that one’s heritage makes them incapable of being impartial, but, based on the rulings that I have received in the Trump University civil case, I feel justified in questioning whether I am receiving a fair trial.”

    Trump added that he’s “watched as the media has reported one inaccuracy after another concerning the ongoing litigation involving Trump University.” The statement doesn’t amount to a repudiation of his earlier comments, but it shows a tacit acknowledgment that he should tamp down his rhetoric.

    Media-to-English Translation: he didn’t give us enough to properly nail him, but we’re going to see what we can make of it anyhow.

    It’s tough when you suddenly feel that you’ve got something to lose. Someone in the Trump camp needs to remind him that he’s been at his best when free-wheeling and damning the torpedoes. He can survive any number of PC-violating gaffes, but the one thing that can definitely cost him the election is a failure of nerve.

    The challenge is that he’s now got all sorts of advisers who are telling him to tone it down, to play the moderate, and to try to appeal to people who are never going to support him anyhow. He will have to find the self-confidence to blow them off and play the game his way.

    A failure of proposition propaganda

    Yesterday, I took a Twitter poll. I asked who best defined what it was to be an American. 702 people voted.

    38%: The 1st U.S. Congress
    02%: Israel Zangwill
    02%: Emma Lazarus
    58%: Thomas Jefferson

    What this tells us is that while the #AltRight has a long way to go, most people are not dumb enough, or intelligent enough to engage in the necessary rationalizations, to take the ludicrous “proposition nation” concept at face value.

    Nations refer solely to people, not polities or political constructs. People are distinguished by DNA. If your DNA is Chinese, you are not and you will never be Norwegian, German, Bantu, or American.

    Those attempting to sell the “proposition nation” concept are doing so for self-serving purposes; it is a 19th century concept created by immigrants and foreigners in order to elevate their status to the level of the native population.

    The fact that it is an ahistorical lie is sufficient to demonstrate its falsity, however, the fact that it is now being used to attack both the English and Swedish nations indicates that it is spiritually malevolent and has been incorporated into the Kalergi Plan.

    Remember, it is not merely America and the white race that is targeted for destruction by the Neo-Babylonians, it is every nation and every race.

    What is neo-reaction?

    Marginal Revolution inadvertently demonstrates why both NRx and the #AltRight are rapidly growing at the expense of progressivism and conservatism by attempting to define neo-reaction while failing to grasp how completely modern liberalism has failed the West:

    1. “Culturism” is in general correct, namely that some cultures are better than others.  You want to make sure you are ruled by one of the better cultures.  In any case, one is operating with a matrix of rule.

    2. The historical ruling cultures for America and Western Europe — two very successful regions — have largely consisted of white men and have reflected the perspectives of white men.  This rule and influence continues to work, however, because it is not based on either whiteness or maleness per se.  There is a nominal openness to the current version of the system, which fosters competitive balance, yet at the end of the day it is still mostly about the perspectives of white men and one hopes this will continue.  By the way, groups which “become white” in their outlooks can be allowed into the ruling circle.

    3. Today there is a growing coalition against the power and influence of (some) white men, designed in part to lower their status and also to redistribute their wealth.  This movement may not be directed against whiteness or maleness per se (in fact some of it can be interpreted as an internal coup d’etat within the world of white men), but still it is based on a kind of puking on what made the West successful.  And part and parcel of this process is an ongoing increase in immigration to further build up and cement in the new coalition.  Furthermore a cult of political correctness makes it very difficult to defend the nature of the old coalition without fear of being called racist; in today’s world the actual underlying principles of that coalition cannot be articulated too explicitly.  Most of all, if this war against the previous ruling coalition is not stopped, it will do us in.

    4. It is necessary to deconstruct and break down the current dialogue on these issues, and to defeat the cult of political correctness, so that a) traditional rule can be restored, and/or b) a new and more successful form of that rule can be introduced and extended.  Along the way, we must realize that calls for egalitarianism, or for that matter democracy, are typically a power play of one potential ruling coalition against another.

    5. Neo-reaction is not in love with Christianity in the abstract, and in fact it fears its radical, redistributive, and egalitarian elements.  Neo-reaction is often Darwinian at heart.  Nonetheless Christianity-as-we-find-it-in-the-world often has been an important part of traditional ruling coalitions, and thus the thinkers of neo-reaction are often suspicious of the move toward a more secular America, which they view as a kind of phony tolerance.

    6. If you are analyzing political discourse, ask the simple question: is this person puking on the West, the history of the West, and those groups — productive white males — who did so much to make the West successful?  The answer to that question is very often more important than anything else which might be said about the contributions under consideration.

    Already I can see (at least) four problems with this point of view.  First, white men in percentage terms have become a weaker influence in America over time, yet America still is becoming a better nation overall.  Second, some of America’s worst traits, such as the obsession with guns, the excess militarism, or the tendency toward drunkenness, not to mention rape and the history of slavery, seem to come largely from white men.  Third, it seems highly unlikely that “white men” is in fact the best way of disambiguating the dominant interest groups that have helped make the West so successful.  Fourth, America is global policeman and also the center of world innovation, so it cannot afford the luxury of a declining population, and thus we must find a way to make immigration work.

    The six points of description are largely correct, so I will content myself with responding to what he sees as the four problems with the neo-reactive point of view.

    1. America is not becoming a better nation. The American nation has been invaded and swallowed up by a liberal multicultural empire that is distinctly inferior in almost every way to the nation it has conquered and suppressed.
    2. This is blatant stupidity. Slavery was never a white invention and most rape in the USA is committed by blacks. White gun violence rates are equal to Holland; blacks are entirely responsible for the high US gun violence rates. The USA has no tendency towards drunkenness; at 9.2 liters per capita per year, it consumes less alcohol on average than nearly every European nation and ranks 46th globally.
    3. This isn’t even an argument, let alone a convincing one. It’s an appeal to personal incredulity combined with political correctness. Whether it seems highly unlikely or not, the fact is that an absence of white men has reliably correlated with a failure to imitate the successes of white culture.
    4. America doesn’t have to be a global policeman and there is no way to “make immigration work”. Innovation is not about numbers; see Scotland and the Industrial Revolution for just one obvious example.

    This is not a serious critique, let alone a convincing one. If these are the “problems” with neo-reaction, then obviously we should all be neo-reactionaries. Tyler Cowen is more intelligent than the average cuckservative, but he is still too cucky to abandon his emotional commitment to equalitarianism.

    Every philosophy must sooner or later choose to accommodate or reject reality. Progressivism, liberalism, libertarianism, and conservatism all require the rejection of readily observable reality. They are intrinsically dyscivic, and worse, dyscivilizational. That is why they are doomed to eventual failure and irrelevance.

    Whom the gods would destroy

    They first make mad. John Wright observes that the USA has fully embraced insanity:

        “The Gender Identity Public Accommodations Bill” (H.4343) provides a three-front advance of transgender “anti-discrimination” laws, reports Conservative Review:

    • It replaces the word “sex” with “gender identity” in multiple areas of Massachusetts law.
    • The Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination must amend rules and policies to comply with this shift from biological sex to “gender identity.”
    • It allows people to use the restroom or locker room that matches their gender identity.

    Victory brought eye-popping hyperbole from the bill’s co-sponsor, Rep. Byron Rushing. “We are doing the work the founders of our nation intended for us to do,” said Rushing, “This is a great day for us and we should be very proud.”

    My comment: Go to confession, get shrived, set your worldly affairs in order, buy firearms, stock the basement with foodstuffs and fuel.

    It is that bad. The keel beam of the ship just broke, we are taking water fore and aft, and the crew are busily pumping water aboard as quickly as can be, the pilot steers toward the reef, the engines are roaring full speed ahead.

    Personally, I think the crazier things get, the more egregiously awful they become, the better.  All of this will be necessary to steel the civilizationists for the hard work to come. It is getting more and more difficult for the moderates and apologists and churchians to manufacture specious arguments claiming everything is really just fine and things are getting better all the time.

    Even tender-hearted women are rapidly beginning to reach the conclusion that “kill it with fire” is the only solution to the sick society we presently endure.

    Robbed of a good comedy

    David French disappoints us all by refusing to be drafted by Bill Kristol:

    Here is a sentence I never thought I’d type: After days of prayer, reflection, and serious study of the possibilities, I am not going to run as an independent candidate for president of the United States.

    I gave it serious thought — as a pretty darn obscure lawyer, writer, and veteran — only because we live in historic times. Never before have both parties failed so spectacularly, producing two dishonest, deceitful candidates who should be disqualified from running for town council, much less leader of the free world.

    Hillary Clinton lies habitually and changes position on virtually every public issue except for her pro-abortion extremism, and she has a suspicious record of making public decisions that favor donors to the Clinton Foundation. Her signal foreign-policy “achievement” was helping launch a war in Libya that not only cost American lives in Benghazi but also helped transform the nation into ISIS’s latest playpen.

    To add to all that, she’s in the middle of an active FBI investigation. If I had handled classified information the way we know she handled classified information, my career would already be over, and the single goal of my life would be persuading the prosecutor to reach a lenient plea bargain.

    Trump also lies habitually (sometimes minute by minute), and changes position based on his moods. In one breath he claims to support working men and women, and then with the next breath he threatens to destroy our economy through trade wars or by playing games with the full faith and credit of the United States. He believes an American judge — a man born in Indiana who spent months hiding from drug cartels after they’d put a “hit” on him – can’t rule on a case involving Trump University because the judge’s parents emigrated from Mexico.

    It’s telling that the best case he can make against Trump is a) to equate the criticism of free trade with lying, b) to equate calling a Mexican a Mexican with lying, and to cry about how many of Trump’s supporters aren’t impressed by his conspicuous virtue-signaling with an African accessory.

    The #AltRight isn’t going to have David French to kick around anymore!

    A forum thread “Publicly tagging customers in CIG CS?” that appeared on
    the CIG website was not only closed, it was completely removed.

    Not only was CIG caught using customer information given to them, then
    matching it against information (e.g. a Goon is a denizen of the SA
    forums) they pulled elsewhere, but they were also using it to determine
    the level of service and attention given to backers who have thus far
    given them almost $115 million.

    You can’t kick us out; we already left

    This is a remarkable demonstration of the cuckservative’s complete failure to understand the #AltRight. He actually thinks that calling us racist, then calling for us to be read out of the conservative movement is something meaningful to any of us.

    When my colleague here at PJ Media, Walter Hudson, wrote an article about the alternative right (or alt-right) titled “The Alt-Right Is Evil and Must Be Opposed,” I hoped that they would strike back by showing him that he was wrong about them.

    We don’t care what the cuckservative Right to which we are the alternative thinks, says, or hopes. We know perfectly well that they will follow their masters’ leads in calling us evil and opposing us. We are not on their side, as they are merely the controlled opposition for the SJW-dominated Left.

    These commenters all share some specific views — views that are diametrically opposed to traditional conservatism. First, they look at people as part of “a tribe,” a word they actually use rather frequently. There is the “white tribe,” the “black tribe,” and the “Hispanic tribe.” They identify with the former: the “white tribe.” This makes them collectivists.

    Fine. Liberalism has transformed into progressivism. Libertarianism has revealed itself to be irrelevant and insane. Individuals are not capable of ensuring human freedom on their own; that is something that can only be done through a collective effort. The Constitution of the United States is one example of such a tribal and collective effort. But it is wrong to say the #AltRight uniformly identifies with the white tribe. We support the right of tribes of every kind to exist, regardless of which one we happen to identify with.

    Just as one can subscribe to Holocaustianity without being a Jew, one can support the efforts of the white tribe to survive intact and preserve Western civilization without being white.

    Secondly, they all seem to believe that there is a grand conspiracy aimed at destroying the “white race.” Neo-Nazis have used the phrase “white genocide” for decades, but until recently, normal conservatives didn’t want to have anything to do with it. Clearly, the alt-right has embraced the concept.

    There is, and you have to be an absolute idiot to fail to notice it. We even know the name of the plan adopted by the global elites, the Kalergi Plan, originally conceived by the half-Austrian, half-Japanese father of the European Union, Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi.

    Third, the alt-right believes that American culture is related to “whiteness.” To them, American culture is white culture. This means that the struggle to “preserve” American culture is actually a struggle to preserve the “white race.”

    American culture is white culture. It has been from the start, and it was intended to be limited to that from the start.

    In all of the naturalization acts from 1790 to 1906 the privilege of naturalization was confined to white persons [260 U.S. 178, 193], although the exact wording of the various statutes was not always the same. If Congress in 1906 desired to alter a rule so well and so long established it may be assumed that its purpose would have been definitely disclosed and its legislation to that end put in unmistakable terms….

    America and American culture will not survive the mestizoation of the Kalergi Plan. It is not intended to survive it. Neither is Germany or German culture, Britain or British culture, Japan or Japanese culture, India or Indian culture. This is why the Alt-Right is more than just the defense of the white tribe and Western civilization, it is the defense of humanity in all its glorious diversity against its forced amalgamation into La Raza Cosmica.

    These people have nothing to do with conservatism. More precisely, they represent the complete opposite: conservatism is focused on individuals; they are focused on groups or, as they call them, tribes. They’re collectivists, and racist collectivists at that. Decades ago, the conservative movement purged itself of  the John Birch Society. It’s up to modern conservatives and libertarians to get rid of the alt-right.

    Go ahead, cucky. We’re amazed that it took you this long to figure out that we’re not even on your side. You see, we already decided to abandon both conservatism and libertarianism because your ideologies are incoherent, your histories are false, your ideals are irrelevant, and your failures are manifest and manifold. To survive, Western civilization is going to need something else. Western civilization is going to need an alternative.
