The daily excerpt at Castalia Library is Niccolo Machiavelli’s Discourses on the First 10 Books of Titus Livius and it is a masterclass on politics, both authoritarian and democratic. Today’s excerpt is exceptionally pertinent in light of the recent German elections, the collapse of the Labour government in the UK and the way in which the once-popular Trump administration is alienating all Americans.
Republics as well as princes should think in advance what adversities may befall them, and of whom they may have need in time of trouble, and then they should comport themselves towards these in the manner they might deem necessary in case danger should come upon them. And whoever acts differently, whether prince or republic, and more especially a prince, and supposes from the above-related fact that it is time enough by benefits to secure the good will of the people when danger has come upon him, deceives himself greatly; for not only will he fail to obtain the good will of the people, but he will accelerate his own destruction.
Simplicius notes that the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has failed spectacularly in this regard, which is particularly noteworthy in light of his attempts to force Germany into a war with Russia.
Before the ‘shock’ of the Saxony-Anhalt state elections several weeks ago had time to wear off, Germany’s Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern round proceeded to deliver a double gut-punch to the Brussels-aligned establishment. The ruling CDU party plunged by around 8% from the ~13% it enjoyed the last time. In fact, CDU has now fallen below the 5% threshold to even be represented in the state parliament at all, which means they will not be accorded even a single seat. This has never before happened to the party in any state election; an historic downfall.
Meanwhile, in Berlin the leftwing Die Linke party secured victory, likewise crushing the CDU which had dominated in the last outing. The failed Reichskanzler Friedrich Merz stood whey-faced and deflated as he miserably declared a day of disaster:

The ex-BlackRock banker and Trilateral Commission stooge has the lowest approval rating of any leader in German history. The reviled abomination who has brought his country to the brink of ruin has now announced his refusal to do the honorable thing and resign, instead choosing to continue his wretched scut work of wringing out the German taxpayer for his globalist paymasters just a little while longer.
Germany is not going to fight Russia. The EU is not going to fight Russia. There is zero popular support for war with Russia from any European peoples except the Poles and the Finns. And the massive unpopularity of the Clown World puppets in government is going to preclude them from forcing their vaccinated, impoverished, long-suffering men into the military no matter how many women are elected to rule over them; it is far more likely that these satanic democratic facades will soon be overthrown by nationalists one way or another, quite possibly with foreign assistance.
